Wellbeing, Expression, Creativity, Understanding
Intent
The appreciation, understanding, performance and pleasure in music is said to be what defines us from other mammals. At Holy Family, we immerse our pupils in it all the time, as in life, music is all around us. It is also scientifically proven to improve mental health and well-being.
Our curriculum is designed to allow children to respond and understand music, experience a variety of instruments and genres, as well as develop music skills. We ensure that children get the opportunity to listen to live music from different cultures, time periods and genres, showcasing diversity and promoting respect. This, where possible, is linked to other subjects. The skills the children learn progress throughout the school, allowing them the chance to over learn through a broad range of topics.
By the end of year 6, we want children to love music, respect differences that occur between different cultures as well as differences of opinion.
